Biography

My Specialty:
  • Providing parents of high school and college students new parenting approaches and strategies to guide their student’s success and growth toward greater independence.
Parenting a college student isn’t just any kind of parenting — it is the art of pairing both freedom and support.
  • Guiding parents to help their student to take increased responsibility for decisions, interactions, goals and planning for the future.
It can be challenging to determine when to step in and when to step out of your student’s life — sometimes we guide best from behind.
  • Helping parents to anticipate twists and turns during the pre-college, college and post-college years to decrease surprises and stress.
We do our best parenting when we can take the emotion out of the commotion.
My Story:  I worked in higher education for over 20 years as an advisor to students and their families — and I became aware of patterns of parenting that facilitate a student’s success both academically and developmentally.  When you pair freedom and support it often requires an expanded toolkit and new strategies to guide one’s student.  Additionally, with the high cost of education, there is a lot at stake — and you want to know that your student is making the most of his or her college experience.  Being an informed parent, who is able to anticipate and respond to the challenges that arise during the college years, are key components to facilitating your student’s happiness, sense of confidence, and success. I am passionate about helping parents to parent differently during the college years – it is not about “letting go” – but rather about staying informed, addressing challenges, and guiding your student toward his or her maximum potential.
